Renovator Certification Expiration Date

epaEPA extended the 5-year certification of renovators who took an EPA accredited renovator training before April 22, 2010 until July 1, 2015.  The extension ensured that renovators who recieved training early, before regulations work practice standards were effective, weren’t penalized for doing so.

Then came this…..

April 9, 2015

Yesterday, EPA’s Administrator signed a final rule to extend certifications for certain individual renovators (those who received initial certification prior to March 31, 2011) under the RRP Program. Please be aware that the extensions only apply to individual renovators who must get recertification training within the timeframes explained below. They do not apply to firm certifications or individual renovators that need their initial certification.

Under the final rule:

  • CONFUSED_BUILDER• Individual renovators who received certification on or before March 31, 2010, now have until March 31, 2016, to get re-certified.
  • • Individual renovators who received certification between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011, will have one year added to their 5-year certification.
  • • Subsequent certifications for renovators receiving the extension will be five years.

 

Again, these extensions apply only to individual renovator certification, not to firm certification.  Also, these extensions only apply to renovators that fall under EPA’s renovation program and not to renovators under authorized state programs.

 

POINTS TO REMEMBER……

  • • This extension only applies to EPA Certificates ……………………..NOT MASSACHUSETTS OR RHODE ISLAND (or any other authorized state program)
  • • Unofficially,  MA DLS states nothing has changed…you need TWO pieces of paper to legally work on a  MA jobsite:

1) a CURRENT FIRM certificate

2) a CURRENT  MA LEAD-SAFE RENOVATOR-SUPERVISOR

OR  EPA CERTIFIED RENOVATOR CERTIFICATE

(IF YOUR EPA CERTIFCATE HAS AN EXPIRED DATE, YOU WILL NOT BE IN POSSESION OF A CURRENT CERTIFICATE)
