In the past, LeadSMART has recommended that people working in Rhode Island take the Massachusetts LSR training and then take a Rhode Island 45 minute online training course. This would give you the certification you need to work on lead projects in Rhode Island (of course, you also need your firm license, just like anywhere else!).

After speaking with a representative from the Rhode Island Department of Health, we are revising our guidelines a bit. Per the state, they have suspended the online training requirement. The state of Rhode Island recognizes both EPA Certified Renovator and MA LSR-S training certificates WITHOUT additional training.

This does not suspend the need for a Rhode Island firm license, though. It impacts training only.

The state is also in the process of updating its Lead-Safe Remodeler/Renovator program and we will pass that information along as we receive it.

In the meantime, download this guidance document hot off the presses from our friends at the RI Department of Health. A copy is also posted on our RRP Contractor Forms page, under the RI Forms tab.
